Common Currents opened at Artpace San Antonio Thursday, January 18. Highly anticipated, Artpace hosts artists responding to San Antonio’s first 50 years (1718-1767).
Assigned the year 1729, my self-portrait is based off of King Philip V of Spain who in 1729 designated, what we know now as San Pedro Park, public land. It calls into question the issues of private versus public land and space. It references San Antonio's history of colonization and the romanticization of the past and how these issues are still relevant to our contemporary society.
